“ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS 2025,” produced by HITOHATA,INC., will be held at Senso-ji (Taitō-ku, Tokyo) from Wednesday, December 3 to Sunday, December 7, 2025. (Organizer: ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS Executive Committee)

During the event, state-of-the-art digital animation and magnificent projection mapping images inspired by the 1,400-year history and culture of Senso-ji will be projected onto the Hozo-mon Gate, the Five-Storied Pagoda, and the Important Cultural Property Niten-mon Gate.

Viewing of the projection mapping is free of charge and no advance reservation is required.

In addition to the projection mapping, there will also be special daytime viewings (paid, advance reservation required) of the normally closed Denboin Garden and the Ema Hall, where large votive paintings by historic artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Hasegawa Settan, and Henmi (Kanō) Kazunobu are preserved. Furthermore, a special nighttime viewing (paid, advance reservation required) of the Denboin Garden, illuminated by fantastical lights, will be held concurrently.

Please enjoy this first-ever grand projection mapping event in the history of Senso-ji, along with the special opportunity to view the scenic Denboin Garden and the Ema Hall for the first time in seven years.

*Please note that entry restrictions may be implemented depending on crowd conditions.

*The projection mapping features the same content regardless of the time of visit. Heavy congestion is expected immediately after the start time, so visiting at a later time is recommended.

[Content and Admission Fees]

① Projection Mapping at Senso-ji Hozo-mon Gate / Five-Storied Pagoda / Important Cultural Property Niten-mon Gate

Magnificent projection mapping inspired by the 1,400-year history and culture of Senso-ji will be projected onto the Hozo-mon Gate, the Five-Storied Pagoda, and the Important Cultural Property Niten-mon Gate using advanced digital animation technology.

  • Dates/Times: December 3–7, 2025, 17:30–21:30

  • Venue: Hozo-mon Gate, Five-Storied Pagoda, Niten-mon Gate at Senso-ji

  • Admission: Free, no advance reservation required

*Projection mapping on the Hozo-mon Gate and Five-Storied Pagoda consists of approx. 6 minutes of content, continuously projected with an approx. 3-minute intermission.

*These projections will be displayed on the south side (towards Nakamise Shopping Street) and can be viewed from Nakamise Shopping Street.

*Projection mapping on the Five-Storied Pagoda can also be viewed from within Denboin Garden during the paid nighttime special viewing.

*Projection mapping on the Niten-mon Gate (west side, facing the Main Hall) consists of approx. 3 minutes of content, continuously projected.

*Projection mapping will be conducted even in rainy weather but may be suspended or canceled in case of severe weather.

*The same projection is shown at all times. To avoid congestion, late-hour visits are recommended.

*Use of tripods, selfie sticks, and drones is prohibited. Flash photography is not allowed.

② Special Daytime Viewing of Denboin Garden and Ema Hall

A special daytime viewing (paid, advance reservation required) of the normally closed Denboin Garden within the Senso-ji precincts and the Ema Hall, where large votive paintings by historic artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Hasegawa Settan, and Henmi (Kanō) Kazunobu are preserved.

  • Dates: December 3–7, 2025

  • Admission Times: 9:00–15:00 (every 30 minutes, last entry at 15:00)

  • Duration: Approx. 1 hour

  • Capacity: 100 persons per session (closed once capacity is reached)

  • Admission Fee: ¥5,000 (tax included) / Disabled discount: ¥4,000 (tax included)

  • Advance reservation required

*Preschool children are free; tickets required from elementary school age.

*Disabled Discount: ¥4,000 (tax included) / Advance reservation required
(Applicable to holders of a Physical Disability Certificate, Ai-no-Techo [Certificate of Intellectual Disability], Ryoiku-Techo [Rehabilitation Certificate], Mental Disability Health and Welfare Certificate, or Atomic Bomb Survivor’s Health Certificate, as well as one accompanying person. Important Notes for Special Viewing of Denboin Garden and Ema Hall :

*Photography is permitted in Denboin Garden; however, photography inside the Ema Hall is strictly prohibited. The use of tripods, selfie sticks, or other auxiliary equipment is not allowed in Denboin Garden.
*The audio guide for the Ema Hall can be enjoyed on your own smartphone. Please bring earphones. Use of the speaker function is strictly prohibited as it may disturb other visitors.
*Wi-Fi is not available on site. Additional mobile data charges (visitor’s responsibility) may apply for audio guide use.
*Audio guide devices, smartphone chargers, or related equipment are not available for rental at the venue.
*Entry may be denied if you arrive more than 30 minutes after your designated admission time.

  • Duration: Approx. 30 minutes

  • Capacity: 100 persons per session (closed once capacity is reached)

  • Admission Fee: ¥3,000 (tax included) / Disabled discount: ¥2,000 (tax included)

  • Advance reservation required
