GIFU LIGHT STORY 2027

Sat, Jan 30 - Sun, Feb 28, 2027

Gifu Park, Shoho-ji Temple (Gifu Prefecture, Gifu City)

GIFU LIGHT STORY 2027, produced by Hitohata Inc. (CEO: Takeaki Higashiyama), will be held at Gifu Park and Shohoji Temple (Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture) from Saturday, January 30 to Sunday, February 28, 2027. (Organizer: GIFU Night View Project Executive Committee)

The event takes place at Gifu Park, at the foot of Mt. Kinka where Gifu Castle stands, and at Shohoji Temple, home of the Gifu Great Buddha, one of the Three Great Buddhas of Japan. The venues will be lit with Gifu Wagasa umbrellas and Gifu Chochin lanterns, both designated as Traditional Crafts of Japan. Projection mapping will also be shown on the garden rock walls of the Remains of Lord Nobunaga’s Residence, where Oda Nobunaga once lived. The images draw on Gifu City’s traditional culture, such as cormorant fishing on the Nagara River, its clear streams, and folding screen paintings. Under the theme “A Thousand Years of Light, Unfolding at Night,” the event creates a magical world of light.

During the event, shops at Gifu Castle Rakuichi, next to Gifu Park, will stay open late. Hot spring inns and hotels along the Nagara River will also offer day-use bathing for a limited time.

Come and enjoy a magical night woven from Gifu City’s traditional crafts, light, projection mapping, and a sea of clouds.
*Ticket sales details will be announced at a later date.

Projection mapping will also be shown on surfaces such as the garden rock walls of the Remains of Lord Nobunaga’s Residence, where Oda Nobunaga once lived.
