Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition HIROSHIMA × Hiroshima Motomachi Aquarium

HITOHATA, INC. produced the collaborative event “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition HIROSHIMA” × “Hiroshima Motomachi Aquarium,” which was held from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Hiroshima Motomachi Aquarium in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The aquarium is located on the 7th floor of the same building as NTT Cred Hall (11F, Motomachi Cred Passera), the venue for the “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition HIROSHIMA.”

Inside the aquarium, an immersive spatial experience including original exclusive videos was presented, alongside an exhibition of actual ukiyo-e prints—such as Utagawa Hiroshige’s “A Collection of Fish: Kanagashira, Leaf Flounder, and Bamboo” and Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “A Collection of Goldfish” (reprint edition)—both printed during the Edo period, as well as explanatory panels detailing the “marine creatures” depicted in these works.

Visitors enjoyed this collaboration with the “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition HIROSHIMA” at the Hiroshima Motomachi Aquarium, whose theme is “The Stage of Life.”

WELCOME – Ukiyo-e in “JAPAN BLUE” That Stretches Endlessly

In this space, ukiyo-e prints—including Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa—that depict beautiful shades of indigo extended endlessly across the ceiling, floor, and walls through mirror reflections, creating an immersive experience with an overwhelming sense of scale.

CORAL – A ukiyo-e world brimming with the atmosphere of Edo and teeming with life

In this space, ukiyo-e depictions of bustling Edo-era streams and cityscapes, as well as portraits of beautiful women by the sea and images of fish, came to life on the walls and floors, presenting a diverse “stage of life” where living creatures, nature, and culture converge.
