Produced by HITOHATA, INC., ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS 2025 was held from Wednesday, December 3 to Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Sensoji Temple in Taito-ku, Tokyo (Organized by the ASAKUSA CULTURE & LIGHTS Executive Committee).
Digital animations utilizing cutting-edge technology and magnificent projection mapping inspired by Sensoji Temple’s 1,400-year history and culture were projected onto the temple’s Hozomon Gate, Five-Storied Pagoda, and the Important Cultural Property Nitenmon Gate.
Alongside the projection mapping, special daytime viewings were offered, allowing visitors to access the usually closed-to-the-public Denboin Garden—an officially designated scenic site—and the Emado Hall, where large ema votive paintings by historical artists such as Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Hasegawa Settan, and Henmi (Kano) Kazunobu are preserved. In addition, special nighttime viewings were held, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the Denboin Garden illuminated by enchanting lights.
As the first large-scale projection mapping event in the history of Sensō-ji, combined with a rare viewing opportunity— the first in seven years— of the scenic Denbōin Gardens and the Ema Hall, the projection mapping attracted over 150,000 visitors. Approximately 5,000 visitors attended the special daytime and nighttime admission events.
