


“National Treasure Matsumoto Castle Projection Mapping 2024-2025” produced by HITOHATA,INC. in collaboration with Epson Sales Co., Ltd. and Seiko Epson Co., Ltd. was held from Saturday, December 14, 2024 to Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Matsumoto Castle Park (Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture). This event features digital animation of ukiyo-e paintings related to Shinshu by Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige and folding screens depicting Matsumoto Castle lord Ishikawa Kazumasa, who built the magnificent castle tower, moving in three dimensions on the tower and stone walls of Matsumoto Castle, one of the five existing national treasures and the oldest of the five-storey, six-storey castle towers. Dynamic and fantastic projection mapping images were projected, including digital art featuring traditional crafts unique to Matsumoto City, such as Matsumoto Temari, Miyama-ori and indigo dyeing, and flowers of the Northern Alps in full bloom in spring.
In addition, visitors can experience a variety of light art, including a powerful light performance combining projection mapping and laser mapping in the castle tower, interactive contents on the park path, projection mapping at the castle gate and lighting up of Matsumoto Castle Park using cutting-edge technology.
Admission was free and no advance registration was required.

Projection mapping images of ukiyo-e, traditional crafts, flowers, etc. will be projected onto Matsumoto Castle, a national treasure representing Japan. A light art production including a fusion of projection mapping and laser mapping and interactive content was performed.

Projection mapping using digital art inspired by motifs such as phoenixes, Toyama’s traditional crafts, and tulips—the prefectural flower of Toyama—is projected onto Toyama Castle, a symbol of Toyama City and a nationally registered tangible cultural property.

National Historic Site Saiku Heian Emaki Projection Mapping 2024
Projection mapping images featuring cultural and artistic motifs associated with Saiku, such as the Tale of Genji picture scroll, Tale of Genji shikishi pasting folding screen and Juni-hitoe, are projected in the Shoden, East Side Hall and West Side Hall of the Saiku Heian no Mori at the Saiku National Historical Site, the main programme of the Re-Ku Bunka Art Festival to be held in early 2024.
