


HITOHATA,INC. (CEO: Higashiyama Takeaki) produced “Tsuruga Castle Projection Mapping 2025”, a commemorative event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the reconstruction of the Tsuruga Castle keep. The event took place from Friday, October 3 to Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Tsuruga Castle Park in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture.

This event, held in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the reconstruction of the castle keep, marked the return of projection mapping to Tsuruga Castle for the first time in six years. Spectacular and fantastical digital imagery was projected onto the castle keep, renowned as one of the most beautiful existing keeps in Japan, as well as its stone walls.
The projection mapping featured digital animations inspired by traditional Aizu culture such as Aizu lacquerware, Aizu painted candles, and pinwheels, alongside the artworks of Sesson Shukei, a painter active in Aizu, and a magnificent display of flowers representing Tsuruga Castle as one of Japan’s famous cherry blossom viewing spots.
In addition, parts of the park were illuminated, allowing visitors to enjoy the Tsuruga Castle Night Walk.
Admission was free, and no prior reservation was required.
Visitors experienced the dazzling projection mapping that beautifully illuminated the symbol of Aizuwakamatsu, Tsuruga Castle.

The content included:

A breathtaking digital art display of flowers symbolizing Tsuruga Castle as a famous cherry blossom site

A dynamic and fantastical projection mapping transforms the keep and stone walls of Matsumoto Castle, a National Treasure, featuring ukiyo-e prints depicting the merchant city of Matsumoto, ornate folding screens, traditional local crafts, and vibrant cherry blossoms and alpine flowers of the Northern Alps.

Projection mapping images of ukiyo-e, traditional crafts, flowers, etc. will be projected onto Matsumoto Castle, a national treasure representing Japan. A light art production including a fusion of projection mapping and laser mapping and interactive content was performed.

Projection mapping with a motif of cultural heritage is projected onto the huge wooden National Treasure Mikado and the magnificent wooden National Treasure Nyorai-do. The National Treasure Mikado also combines projection mapping and laser mapping.

Ethics Lights 2025: Toyama Castle Projection Mapping
Projection mapping using digital art inspired by motifs such as phoenixes, Toyama’s traditional crafts, and tulips—the prefectural flower of Toyama—is projected onto Toyama Castle, a symbol of Toyama City and a nationally registered tangible cultural property.

National Historic Site Saiku Heian Emaki Projection Mapping 2024
Projection mapping images featuring cultural and artistic motifs associated with Saiku, such as the Tale of Genji picture scroll, Tale of Genji shikishi pasting folding screen and Juni-hitoe, are projected in the Shoden, East Side Hall and West Side Hall of the Saiku Heian no Mori at the Saiku National Historical Site, the main programme of the Re-Ku Bunka Art Festival to be held in early 2024.
