Nagoya Kanko Hotel Flower and Digital Art Installation - Purple Season - produced by HITOHATA,INC., was exhibited at the Nagoya Kanko Hotel (Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) from Sunday, 6 April 2025 until Friday, 20 June 2025.
The exhibition was a digital art installation work that combined a gorgeous wisteria flower object in the main lobby of the Nagoya Kanko Hotel with a projection mapping video in which ukiyo-e paintings of beautiful women moved within the wisteria archway.
This digital installation was composed of a wisteria flower sculpture lavishly displayed, with projection mapping inside the arch featuring animated bijin-ga (beautiful women) from traditional ukiyo-e prints.
The ukiyo-e animation was based on works by Utagawa Kunisada, a renowned ukiyo-e artist from the Edo period. Kunisada was highly regarded for his elegant portrayals of women and seasonal flowers, and this work elevated his world through modern digital interpretation.
The expressions of the animated bijin-ga were rich and emotive. Video was also projected onto the wisteria sculpture, infusing it with shimmering lights and changing colors that enhanced the entire space with beauty and depth.
