Our members are involved in the entire process of making a project succeed, deriving the optimal answer at every stage. A structure in which a small core team oversees the whole business while collaborating with specialists is the foundation of the quality HITOHATA delivers.

At HITOHATA each person's scope of work is broad, and quick decisions and judgement are required. From your very first year you are involved in essential work on large-scale projects, in an environment where the way you face your work is reliably reflected in the results. At the same time, this is a world that always competes to be the most advanced and the very best, and that asks for speed in your growth as a professional.

To create one-of-a-kind experiences, we put three capabilities to work. The power to unravel complex challenges logically and drive the business forward. The power to hold deep respect for history and culture while envisioning new forms of expression. And the power to build up steady, precise groundwork and defend the final line of quality. What binds these together firmly is the sense of aesthetics shared by everyone at HITOHATA, which puts the quality of the work first.

HITOHATA is a small organization. This is work where you engage with the whole project from a broad perspective and can truly feel your work reaching many visitors in Japan and overseas, as well as the audience right in front of you. We look forward to entries from those who want to take on the front line, where the experiences you create give rise to real emotion.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Can I take on work with real responsibility in my first year?

Because HITOHATA runs large-scale projects with a small core team, you take on roles with real responsibility in actual projects as soon as you join. From Grade 3 (Professional) you hold approval authority of up to JPY 50,000 for purchases, JPY 100,000 for outsourcing and JPY 1,000,000 for issuing quotes and invoices, and everyone is issued their own corporate card. Whether you are entrusted with work depends not on seniority but on your results and the maturity of your expertise.

How are evaluation and promotion decided?

Evaluation is not based on seniority; it is an absolute assessment based on your results and the maturity of your expertise. Promotions and base salary revisions take place once a year (July). There is no automatic promotion based on length of service, and depending on your ability you may be promoted to a higher position early. Each job track has a consistent career path from Grade 1 (Assistant) to Grade 8 (Executive / Board Director).

What annual salary can I expect?

For a new graduate (four-year university in Japan, aged 22 on joining), you start from a base salary of JPY 252,800. Including bonuses (twice a year), overtime allowances, business trip allowances and housing allowance, expected first-year annual pay is roughly JPY 4.5-5.5 million, though it can be considerably higher depending on your results. Base salary is revised each July according to results and evaluation, and your pay rises when you are promoted.

How is my assignment decided?

You choose your job track when you apply (Director; Planner/Marketer/Manager; Designer/Artist; Creator/Engineer; Operator/Presenter). Your specific duties and the projects you work on are decided after you join, based on your aptitude, the company's situation and your own wishes. Changing to another job track after joining is also possible. The Dancer / Performer track is recruited separately by audition and is not part of this choice.

Are there transfers or relocations?

For both new graduates and mid-career hires, the Nagoya head office is your main place of work in the first year, with business trips in Japan and overseas as projects progress. In future, depending on your aptitude and the projects you are on, transfer to our Tokyo, Osaka or Milan offices is possible. When a transfer or secondment is considered, we take full account of your working and family circumstances and respect your wishes in reaching a decision.

What is the difference between a COMPANY MEMBER (full-time employee) and a PROJECT MEMBER (contract employee)?

A COMPANY MEMBER (full-time employee) has no fixed term of employment and is a permanent hire responsible for driving the business over the long term. A PROJECT MEMBER (contract employee) is employed for a defined project period and scope, and based on results and evaluation can aim to become a COMPANY MEMBER (full-time employee). Both are covered by social insurance, allowances and flextime, and start at Grade 3 (Professional) or above. There is no difference in the criteria for evaluation or promotion, and depending on results and the maturity of their expertise a PROJECT MEMBER (contract) may be promoted sooner than a COMPANY MEMBER (full-time).

Can ASSISTANT MEMBERs (interns) or ASSOCIATE MEMBERs (part-time staff) become COMPANY MEMBERs (full-time employees)?

ASSISTANT MEMBERs (interns) and PROJECT MEMBERs (contract) have gone on to join us as COMPANY MEMBERs (full-time employees). Because promotion is based on results and evaluation rather than age or length of service, how you approach your work leads directly to becoming a full-time employee.
We are also actively open to hiring ASSOCIATE MEMBERs (part-time staff) as COMPANY MEMBERs (full-time employees).

Can new graduates apply for mid-career openings? Can I apply for several positions at once?

Yes to both. Mid-career hiring has no age or career-history requirements, so new graduates are welcome to apply. New graduate hiring and mid-career hiring follow separate selection processes, so please apply to whichever suits your situation. Even if you cannot join before graduating, we will take your aptitude into consideration. If you are applying for several positions at the same time, please note this in the applicant's notes section of your documents and in your application email.
