Q&A

Q. When would I start?

A. Because we are preparing for the opening in spring 2027, we would like you to start as early as possible, but the start date can be adjusted to suit your circumstances.

Q. What are the working arrangements?

A. You will work shifts in line with the opening hours of "Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA" (planned as 10:00-20:00). Including pre-opening preparation and post-closing closing duties and cleaning, working hours generally fall between 9:00 and 21:00 and are set by the shift roster.

You can work from two days a week, and working weekends only is also possible. The days and times you work are arranged taking your wishes into account. Because the museum opens on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and over the year-end and New Year period, we ask for your cooperation with shifts that include weekends and public holidays.

Q. Is there a uniform? Are there rules on clothing and appearance?

A. You will wear the uniform provided by the company when working at the museum, and cleaning costs are covered by the company.

Depending on your position, on exhibitions and events held at the museum and on publicity shoots, you may also be asked to wear kimono, yukata or other Japanese dress. This is part of the presentation unique to a facility that conveys ukiyo-e and Edo culture. Japanese dress is provided by the company, so you do not need to prepare anything, and no experience of dressing in kimono is required.

Because this role involves serving visitors, we ask that you serve them with your expression and voice clearly conveyed (except when you are unwell, when it is necessary for hygiene, or when required by the authorities). There are also standards for hairstyle, nails and accessories, from the point of view of the world of the works and of safety.

Q. Will I appear in publicity photographs and video?

A. Yes. For the publicity of the museum and for recruitment communications, photographs and video of staff at work are taken and may be used on the websites and social media of our company and related companies, and in brochures, advertising, press releases and media coverage. Shop Attendants are the face of the facility, so please understand this point before applying.

We will let you know in advance about the schedule and content of shoots, including whether Japanese dress will be worn. Photographs and video are managed appropriately in accordance with the HITOHATA, INC. Privacy Policy.

Q. When and how are shifts decided?

A. Shifts are decided in principle during the preceding month, taking into account the operating schedule of the facility and the overall balance of work across the team. You can also request specific days off.

Q. Is there late-night work?

A. Regular shifts generally fall between 9:00 and 21:00 in line with the facility's opening hours. The after-hours exhibition changeover and maintenance are handled by the Curator / Presenter track and are not normally part of the Shop Attendant role.

Q. How is this different from the Attendant position? Will I handle work other than the shop?

A. Shop Attendants handle customer service, sales and product management at the museum shop, and do not handle reception, guidance or introducing the works in the galleries. Attendants handle reception, guidance and introducing the works, and also cover the work of Shop Attendants. If you are interested in working at the shop, please apply as a Shop Attendant; if you would like to be involved in a wider range of work across the museum, please apply as an Attendant (you may also apply for both).

You can be promoted to Grade 3 and above while remaining an ASSOCIATE MEMBER (part-time), and depending on your wishes and the selection process, you can also change to the Attendant position or switch to PROJECT MEMBER (contract) or COMPANY MEMBER (full-time) status.

Q. What about commuting expenses?

A. Commuting expenses are paid. Details such as the scope of coverage and any upper limit will be explained during the selection process.

Q. What is the employment type?

A. You will be hired as an ASSOCIATE MEMBER (Part-Time Staff).

You can be promoted to Grade 3 and above without changing employment type, and your hourly pay is linked to your grade. Depending on your wishes and the selection process, you can also switch to PROJECT MEMBER (contract) or COMPANY MEMBER (full-time) status.

Q. What is the hourly pay?

A. From JPY 1,600 per hour (determined according to experience, skills and grade). Hourly pay is linked to grade and rises as you are promoted.

Overtime, holiday work and late-night work allowances are paid in full, calculated by the minute, as required by law.

Q. Do I need English skills?

A. We expect visitors from overseas, so language ability such as English or Chinese is welcome, but it is not required. Commentary inside the museum is prepared in several languages including Japanese, English and Chinese, and we support language learning after you join.

Q. I am a student. Can I apply, and can I combine this work with my studies or another job?

A. Yes, you can apply. You can work from two days a week, and working weekends only is also possible. The days and times you work are arranged taking your wishes into account, so you can combine this work with your studies or another job.

Shifts are decided in principle during the preceding month, taking into account the operating schedule of the facility and the overall balance of work across the team. You can also request specific days off.

Q. I have none of the preferred skills or qualifications. Can I still apply?

A. The preferred skills and qualifications are for reference only and are not required.

We place more weight on personal qualities: hospitality and communication skills that give visitors both reassurance and excitement, the autonomy, initiative and sense of responsibility to protect quality and safety on site, and the cooperativeness and proactive attitude needed to run the facility as a team.

No experience is required for an interest in projection mapping, immersive art museums or immersive shows either, so please apply with confidence.

Q. I currently work at another company. Can the selection schedule be adjusted?

A. Yes. If you are currently employed elsewhere, we will adjust the selection schedule, for example by holding interviews on your days off.

Q. I currently live overseas. Do I need to come to Japan for the interview?

A. Yes. The interview and aptitude test are held in person at our Tokyo Office or Nagoya Head Office and cannot be taken online. We will adjust the selection schedule to dates when you can come to Japan.

Q. I cannot apply during this recruitment period. Will there be future openings?

A. If this recruitment fills the planned number of Shop Attendant positions, there are no immediate plans for additional recruitment. However, additional recruitment may take place in the near future if the planned number is not reached, or if a vacancy arises.

If you would like to work as a Shop Attendant in the future, please apply now and note this in the personal requests section. If you meet our hiring standards through the selection process, we may put your offer on hold and give you priority when a vacancy arises.

Q. Can I apply for more than one position? Can I change position after joining?

A. You may apply for more than one position; please note this in the personal requests section. After joining, you may also change to another position, taking into account your wishes and aptitude.
