“Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA” draws on over 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, and Kitagawa Utamaro, Tosusai Sharaku, Utagawa Kunisada, and other world-renowned ukiyo-e artists. Utilizing cutting-edge 3DCG animation and projection mapping, the museum presents these works as innovative digital art that transcends generations and languages. It is an immersive, experiential digital art museum where visitors can immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e through eight distinct three-dimensional visual spaces.
Centered on masterpieces of ukiyo-e—including “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” and “Clear Autumn Sky (commonly known as Red Fuji)” from Katsushika Hokusai’s “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji”—visitors can fully appreciate the beauty of ukiyo-e through three-dimensional visuals, sound, and scent that envelop the space. Furthermore, the museum displays actual ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period as well as reprints created from woodblocks carved in the Meiji era and beyond, offering multilingual explanations in Japanese, English, Chinese, and other languages about the history of ukiyo-e, Edo culture, and the ukiyo-e artists.
In addition, the venue features a museum shop offering original merchandise created in collaboration with long-established brands, as well as a gallery where actual ukiyo-e prints are displayed and sold, allowing visitors to experience Edo culture with all five senses and take a piece of it home.
Photography and video recording are permitted throughout the venue, allowing you to step into the fantastical world of ukiyo-e and capture the moment.
Please look forward to the “Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA” a Japanese cultural experience facility where masterpieces of ukiyo-e—which continue to captivate the world across the ages—come to life dynamically, and where you can learn about the depth of ukiyo-e through actual prints and explanatory displays.
