“Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA” to Exhibit at “Tourism EXPO Japan 2026”

Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA, produced by HITOHATA Inc. and opening in Ginza, Tokyo in spring 2027, will exhibit at Tourism EXPO Japan 2026, held at Tokyo Big Sight from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2026.

"Ukiyoe Immersive Art Museum GINZA" is the first permanent venue of the Ukiyoe Immersive Art Exhibition, an immersive art exhibition that has attracted a cumulative total of more than 700,000 visitors across 11 cities in Japan and overseas. The museum will open in Ginza, Tokyo as the culmination of the exhibition series.

Based on more than 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku and Utagawa Kunisada, the museum brings ukiyo-e to life as a new kind of digital art that people of all generations and languages can enjoy, using cutting-edge 3DCG animation and projection mapping. Across eight themed spaces of three-dimensional imagery, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e.

Themed on ukiyo-e masterpieces, including "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and "Fine Wind, Clear Morning (Red Fuji)" from Katsushika Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, the museum lets visitors savor the beauty of ukiyo-e through enveloping three-dimensional visuals, sound and scent. The museum will also display original ukiyo-e prints made in the Edo period and reproduction prints made from woodblocks carved in the Meiji period and later, with multilingual commentary in Japanese, English, Chinese and other languages on the history of ukiyo-e, Edo culture and the ukiyo-e artists.

In addition, the museum will feature a museum shop offering original goods created in collaboration with long-established Japanese brands, as well as a gallery that exhibits and sells original ukiyo-e prints, allowing visitors to experience Edo culture with all five senses and take it home with them.

Photography and video recording are permitted throughout the venue, so visitors can step into the fantastical world of ukiyo-e and capture it.

Set in Ginza, Tokyo, a destination that draws inbound travelers, luxury travelers and people from all over the world, the museum will combine cutting-edge technology with traditional Japanese art to offer an unprecedented immersive experience, while sharing the depth of ukiyo-e, one of Japan's proudest art forms, with a global audience.
