"National Historic Site Saiku Heian Emaki Projection Mapping 2022" produced by HITOHATA,INC. will be held at Saiku Heian no Mori (Meiwa-machi, Taki County, Mie Prefecture) from November 3th (Thu) to 5th (Sat), 2022. The event will be hosted by Meiwa Kanko Shosha (Meiwa Tourism and Trading Company).

This event will be held in the main hall, east side hall, and west side hall of the Saiku Heian no Mori, which is located at the site of the Saiku Palace, a national historic site, where the Saio lived in the past.

Admission is 500 yen, free for elementary school students and younger, and no advance application is required.

In addition, "Saiku Historical Museum Digital Art Exhibition - Miyabi of Saiku and the Dynasties" will be held at the Saiku Historical Museum at the same time. Organized by the Saiku Historical Museum. Digital artworks featuring motifs from the museum's collections, such as "The Tale of Ise" and "Saio Gunko Emaki" will be exhibited in the entrance hall of the Saiku Historical Museum.

What are "Saio" and "Saiku"?

Saiku, which is related to Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture, is the capital of the unmarried princess "Saio" who served Amaterasu Omikami of Ise Jingu on behalf of the emperor for more than 660 years from the Asuka period to the end of the Kamakura period.

The only place in Japan where Saiku existed is the site of the Abstinent Palace in Meiwa Town, Mie Prefecture, which has been protected by the locals as a sacred land. The Agency "has been restored.

Saio, who is said to have had more than 60 people, left her family until the emperor replaced him, said goodbye to life in the city, and spent his days praying at Saio. Some of them were forbidden to have a romance and tore up their relationship with her lover because they served God.

About Saiku Heian no Mori 

Three Heian-period buildings, the Saikyu-Ryocho, have been restored at the historic Saikyu site. They convey the charm of ancient architecture and reproduce the appearance of the ancient Saiku Palace.

The three buildings are thought to have been used for ceremonies and feasts under the director of the Saikuryo, the Saiku government office. In the background, the world of ancient Heian-period architecture unfolds.

Opening hours: March-October: 9:30-17:00 (last admission at 16:30), November-February: 9:30-16:00 (last admission at 15:30)
