Job Description

This is a call for ALLIANCE MEMBERs (service contract) who join HITOHATA projects such as projection mapping, immersive art museums and immersive shows on a per-project basis. In the fields of visual design and branding, you bring your expertise to give visual form to HITOHATA’s aesthetic and express the value of the brand at every touchpoint.

• Designing key visuals, logos, typography and spatial signage

• Layout and decoration of exhibition panels, captions and graphics for exhibition fixtures

• Refining the design of proposals and presentation materials, and creating image boards

• Producing graphics for social media and PR (event announcement banners, post images and so on)

• Preparing and managing print data (color proofing, bleed, outlining) and liaising with partner companies

• Collecting ukiyoe digital data, checking copyright, processing images and selecting the ukiyoe to be used

• Wall and caption design, and supporting the editing of commentary text

• Researching digital art and design trends in Japan and overseas, and investigating and sharing AI tools

Required Skills

• Interest in projection mapping, immersive art museums and immersive shows

• Professional experience in at least one of graphic design, spatial design or art direction (the number of years does not matter)

• Communication skills to run online meetings and manage progress smoothly

• Ability to create and revise print-ready artwork with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

All of the following are for reference only. No specific experience or qualification is required.

• After Effects and Premiere Pro (video production and editing)

• 3DCG software such as Cinema 4D, Blender or Maya

• Creating proposals and presentation materials with PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides

• Professional experience in graphic design, spatial design or UI/UX design

• Photography and video skills

Ongoing. A small number of positions depending on the project.

Application Requirements

• Aged 18 or over

• Able to conclude a service contract (contract for work or quasi-mandate) for each project, either as an individual or as a company

• Able to work and hold meetings remotely (your current place of residence does not matter; some projects involve work at the Nagoya Head Office or at venues)

• Able to work during project preparation and live operation, including Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and late nights, and to travel in Japan and overseas (negotiable depending on the project)

Example items to include in your profile

• Full name (with reading), date of birth (and your age as of the date of writing) and current address

• Contact details (email address and phone number), and your trade name or company name if you have one

• Career and track record (projects, your role and the tools used), qualifications and skills

• The areas of work you can take on, when you are available and how much capacity you have, a self-introduction, and any other requests (such as whether you are registered under the invoice system)

About the portfolio

• Format: PDF or a URL (Behance, note, a personal site and so on) are both fine. If your file exceeds 10MB, you may send a Google Drive or Dropbox link.

• Content: mainly professional work, presented so that your own role is clear

• For each piece, please briefly note your own role, the production period and the tools used.

• Professional work involving existing IP should only be submitted within the limits of any NDA.

Selection Process

• Entry (submission of your profile, work list and portfolio)

• Notification of document screening result (by email, within about three weeks of submission)

• Review of your track record, skills and the areas you can cover (a conversation about past projects)

• Interview, held at our office or online, for candidates who pass document screening

• Discussion of the work, fee and schedule

• Conclusion of the service contract

• Assignment to a project and start of work

Emails may fail to reach us because of size limits or spam filtering. If you have not heard from us more than three weeks after submitting your documents, please contact us via the inquiry form.

Meetings may be held more than once depending on the project and your area of expertise.

If you would like to meet at our office, travel costs for the first meeting are at your own expense. Travel and accommodation costs for subsequent meetings are covered by the company in accordance with our rules.

It can take up to about three months from the closing date or your entry until the final offer or rejection is communicated.

Fees and Contract Terms

Contract type

ALLIANCE MEMBER (service contract). A service contract (contract for work or quasi-mandate) is concluded for each project.

Fees and payment terms

• Fee: discussed and agreed individually for each project (based on the deliverables, workload, complexity and your track record)

• Payment cycle: closed at the end of the month and paid by bank transfer by the end of the following month (transfer fees covered by the company)

• Withholding tax is deducted where required by law

• We can work with you whether or not you are registered as a qualified invoice issuer

• Travel and accommodation costs: paid or reimbursed in accordance with our rules where on-site work or business travel is involved

• Business trip per diem (tax exempt): 2,500 yen per day, paid for overnight business trips or day trips of eight hours or more

• Equipment and software licenses: what we provide and what you prepare is agreed for each project

• Copyright in the deliverables, the scope of secondary use and confidentiality are set out in the individual contract

Working conditions

• Working hours and capacity: agreed individually for each project (fully remote is possible; we are contactable from 10:00 to 19:00)

• During project preparation and live operation we may ask you to work on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays or late at night

• Progress is managed mainly through regular online meetings and chat tools

• You are free to work on projects for other clients (please let us know in advance about any competing project)

Contract period

An individual contract for each project (one-off or fixed-term). Where we work with you on an ongoing basis, we may conclude an annual master agreement.

Work location

Mainly remote. Depending on the project, work may take place at the Nagoya Head Office, the Tokyo Office or at venues in Japan and overseas. For on-site work we discuss the schedule and terms with you in advance.

Other

• We conclude a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and then share project information with you

• Whether the work can be shown in your portfolio is discussed for each project (some projects can be published)

• You work alongside our staff, and we share technical information and equipment know-how

• You are free to give lectures, write and present your own work

• Any other terms required are agreed for each project
